A Darker, More Mature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game Is In Development
Paramount Global’s senior vice president for games, Doug Rosen, recently announced that a new TMNT game is in development, based on the five-issue comic mini-series released in 2020, The Last Ronin.
The Last Ronin is set in a dark future where only one of the four Turtles remains, and his brothers have already died.
The game will be a third-person action RPG, similar to the recent God of War games, and will mainly be a single-player adventure due to the nature of the story.
The Last Ronin was written by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the original creators of TMNT, and is set in New York City, which is ruled by The Shredder’s grandson.
The main character, the last surviving Turtle, uses all four Turtles’ weapons, and occasionally has hallucinations and flashbacks in which he believes his brothers are alive.
Rosen has suggested that the game could make other Turtles playable in flashback sequences.
The game is expected to differ from other TMNT games, which are usually multiplayer-focused. Two TMNT games were released last year, TMNT:
The Cowabunga Collection, a retro compilation containing 13 games from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, and TMNT:
Shredder’s Revenge, a modern take on those games, offering beat ’em up gameplay for up to six players.
